The official day is September 22, 2008. But everyday is a good day if it is a CFD. I had two last week, could have been 3 but had to run errands. I had 3 the week before. Man it feels great not to set foot in a car for an entire day. How many car free days can you put together in a week? Walking in Texas is related to being poor in some eyes. We are such a car or more truck society in Texas, the perception is that if you are walking or riding you are destitute. One more goal: break that perception and go Car Free as much as possible. The health benefits and not having to stop by the gas station on the way home is incentive enough for me. Ever try and run errands on a bike in Mesquite? Not real easy to find a place to secure it. I've used benches, propane storage cages, some sort of pipe coming out of the building among other things but never a rack. They aren't that expensive. Here is a link to some really cool racks that David Byrne former Talking Heads lead singer designed watch the video.

http://commutebybike.com/2008/07/31/seven-things-bike-commuting-has-taught-me/

What is YOUR reason?

Well, since you asked.....Several reasons really. I enjoy it. It does the body good. Saves money. Faster than walking, easier than running. Possible training for a triathlon. (Hey, it's a start). Right now I'm commuting to the Park and Ride DART station at Lake June and Hwy 175 most everyday, unless I really have a need for a car during the day. It's not a long ride around 16 miles round trip, but I really look forward to it. My wife and I also have mountain bikes which we try to use as much as we can. Just beginners in that area.

So what are your reasons?
